Student’s/Group No Professor’s Name Course Date INFO 4080/5080 Research Methods Dear Dean: Our team from the University of North Texas’ College of Information conducted a study to determine the relationship between the gender of students enrolled in the Texas State Technical College and statistics of its library’s users. Data collection was performed through observation by our cohort researchers at library reception. We noted a number of users streaming based on gender, which was observed in April for four days and different hours at TSTC Sweetwater Learning Resource Center general reading room. During these observations, a total of 211 library users were observed. According to Dr. Homer K. Taylor, Learning Resource Manager, the total gender enrollment structure for 2019 spring semester was 631 students, of which 339(53.7%) were male and 292(46.3%) were female. Figure 1: Total TSTC Sweetwater Learning Resource Center for spring 2019 was 631 students, of which 339(53.7%) were male and 292(46.3%) were female. Homer K. Taylor, Learning Resource Manager at Sweetwater April 15, 2019 Figure 2: The students observed during the study were Male 124 and female 87 John Doe observed the library general reading room for I hour Each day for 4 consecutive days (Refer to Raw Data) The study null hypothesis stated the following: There is no significant difference in gender proportion for students who used the general reading room at TSTC Sweetwater Learning Resource Center. The study anticipated that in case the results fail to reject the null hypothesis, then we should believe that 339(53.7%) were male and 292(46.3%) were female. The observation recorded 211 students (Male: 124, Female: 87). The study completed the Chi-square Goodness of Fit as the empirical statistical method. The obtained results rejected the null hypothesis. We expect that there is no significant threat to validity. Though, there is a possibility of a type I error since the null hypothesis was rejected and the study had expected to have no variation of mean by gender for library users at the general reading room of TSTC Sweetwater Learning Resource Center. The female counterparts perhaps were out for a forum or a picnic since no user was aware of our observation plans. Though, we are at least 95% confident that if we took another sample of this population there would be a significant difference in the means by gender proportion for students who used the general reading room at TSTC Sweetwater Learning Resource Center. Complete research findings are attached, and we hope
