MBAS903 Assessment 2 – INDIVIDUAL Assessment
Purpose: Prepare a report for your client Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA)
to allow them to gain insights into ALL possible factors that may influence donations
in the target promotion.
Business Analytics Applications: descriptive analytics, linear and logistic regression analysis
Background: Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) is a not-for-profit organisation that
provides programs and services for US veterans with spinal cord injuries or disease. With an
in-house database of over 13 million donors, PVA is also one of the largest direct mail fund
raisers in the country.
The BIGPVA dataset in SAS contains data on customers’ demographic information, past
donation behaviour and response to a current promotion event.
Guidelines: Develop an appropriate regression for “Target Gift Amount” and another one
for “Target Gift Flag”. Whereas target gift amount records the donation value, target gift
flag records whether a donation was made (=1) or not (=0). You may use all variables in your
analysis.
Format: Business report for client
Executive summary – one paragraph overview of full project including summary of results –
5 marks
Introduction – set the scene and background of issue/problem (broad to specific issues) – 10
marks
Literature review – critical summary of research literature relating to models addressing
similar types of problems (charity donations or sales in general where there is demographic
and / or customer history data used). Start with a very short summary of each paper, then
structure your paragraphs around themes you identify (eg. variables used, methods) and
discuss similarities or differences you identify in your research. Do not simply describe each
article one by one – aim for at least 4 journal articles) – 20 marks
Methodology – discuss the process you will follow (eg. Descriptive analytics, checking for
multicollinearity between x variables, process of explanatory variable selection and
treatment of outliers etc – no results to appear in this section) – 15 marks
Body and analysis – descriptive analytics results, quick summary of the process and steps
ultimately taken in your regression analysis then focus most of this section on presentation,
discussion and interpret of the chosen models– 40 marks
Conclusions – wrap up the exercise with recommendations for client – 10 marks
