1. Controllers are widely used to control the parameters in numerous systems. One of the common applications of controllers is in the temperature control of water heating systems. An example of water heating systems is shown in Figure 1 below. The input to the water heating system is heat, represented by u(t), and the output of the system is water temperature, Tw(t).
3. Is the water heating system shown in Figure 1 an open-loop or closed-loop system? Explain your answer.
4. Feedback is commonly used in control systems. Do you need feedback in the water heating system if you want to control the temperature of the water automatically? Explain the functions of the feedback used in the control system.

Modify the water heating system in Figure 1 and design an improved water heating control system that can automatically control the temperature of the water in the system. Show the components of your design clearly. Explain the function of the various parts of your design
