Topic 7- Memory Strategies (Chapter 6) PSY260 – Educational Psychology Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Date Introduction Learning in school requires memorization of a broad range of facts. As a result, educators and students employ various memory strategies to making the learning process simpler. Currently, students and teachers use Elaboration, mnemonics, mental imagery, Organization, and Rehearsal memory strategies in classroom setting (Wang, 2019; Al-Faris & Jasim, 2021). These memory strategies, whether used by students or educators, are beneficial in the classroom since they aid in retaining knowledge. According to research, the teachers’ education in memory strategies needs to be more robust to allow learners to understand how to apply them successfully (Aljurbua, 2021; Wang, 2019; Al-Faris & Jasim, 2021). Additionally, teachers use memory-relevant languages, such as methods and metacognitive topics, like questions about students’ understanding of how memory functions, to motivate students to retain information varies significantly. However, this research paper discusses four of the widely used memory strategies, including Elaboration, mental imagery, Organization, and Rehearsal memory. Strategy #1: Elaboration Educators demonstrate the elaboration strategy by adding distinctiveness to new knowledge. Elaboration, according to Aljurbua (2021), facilitates the encoding and retrieval of additional information since it connects it to earlier data. The formation of self-reference examples and complex sentences are two methods of elaboration strategy. Students can use elaboration to develop expressive sentences (such as “The eatery will be our rendezvous”) to help them remember how to spell words like rendezvous. Answering questions on new content is an additional way to elaborate. Students might consider why a fact, such the Western Spotted Skunk living in a hole in the ground, is accurate by asking questions like, “Why will that fact be true?” Students connect their knowledge to the new material as
