Since divorce is a serious social and moral issues that has not only led to collapse of families but also instigated perpetual agony especially for the children of the divorced partners to climb up the ladder of life in regards to socio-economic wellbeing. Further, in the recent past and even today divorce cases are constant, especially in developed countries such as United States (US) and Canada. As a matter of fact, numerous families are either currently battling court cases or initializing the divorce process through legal channels. Recent studies have shown a steady increase in divorce rates. For instance, in the U.S. divorce rate stands at 2.9 per 1,000 population as of 2014 the latest year of data from the CDC, with 45 reporting states (CDC/NCHS, 2018). The Durkheim’s theories on divorce associates it to the weakened family ties caused by urbanization, cultural believes and practices of a particular society (Härkönen, 2014). The study proposition is that weak faith and family ties coupled with socioeconomic dimensions such as age, marital status, and income levels best explain the increasing divorce rate. The study also assumes that individuals that do not support stricter divorce laws have a higher likelihood to divorce as compared to those that strongly support the laws. In this regard, the study constructed specific objectives as follows; To determine whether a strong association exists between marital status and one’s perception on divorce laws. To establish whether there is a significant difference between age and income levels for families with strong and weak ties; To assess if age, faith, and marital status strongly predict or influence once perception on divorce laws To obtained answers for the study’s specified objectives, the research also constructed hypotheses to be tested in the empirical analyses, which state as follows; H0:β0=0: There is a weak association between marital status and one’s perception on divorce laws Ha: β0≠0: There is a strong association between marital status and one’s perception on divorce laws H0:β0=0: There is no significant difference between age and income levels for families with strong and weak ties Ha: β0≠0: There is a significant difference between age and income levels for families with strong and weak ties H0:β0=0: Age, faith, and marital status do not predicts
